Being a Better Me

Last week was the first week in my new position as Chief Operating Officer for SRSI.  I left exhausted and exhilarated.  And I can't wait to get back today.  There are so many things that need improvement and so many things that are happening right now that are simply excellent.

I believe my job is to build a culture and environment of excellence.  I am not out to change anyone.  I am trying to change a culture and then it is up to the individual to accept or reject the new culture that is created.  I want all of the team to build trust, to strive for excellence in our individual area of expertise, to care deeply for each other, our community, and our customers, and to leave at the end of every week knowing that we have done every thing possible to move the company forward and to have zero regrets for what was accomplished throughout the week.

But the most important factor in making each and every one of these goals a reality is to build and become a better me.  I need to hold myself to a level of accountability that is higher than anyone else would ever hold me to.  I have to teach but be teachable.  I need to expect excellence but also demonstrate excellence in every thing that I possibly can.

In the long run, my employees will only be as good as I am.  They will only rise to the expectations that I set for myself.  They will only follow where I am willing to go myself.

In all areas, I need to strive to be a better me.  Only then can we become a better company.
